![]() We would love to see him lean out a bit which would only help his mobility but he has a chance to be a very special player. He’s a natural athlete and is already a well known prospect in the Midwest with offers from schools like Arizona State, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss. ![]() Louis (Ill.) (2023): McVay is a massive kid who looks close to 350 pounds but moves well for his size and shows very good flexibility. He was a part time player as a sophomore but will be the guy this year and in Cathedral’s run dominated offense, he should put up monster numbers. He clocked a 4.61-40 and looked explosive in the drills as well. RB Lucky Sutton, San Diego (Calif.) Cathedral Catholic (2022): Sutton has a great frame and measured in at 6-1, 197 pounds but looks bigger then that. Nelson recently visited Alabama and will have his choice of just about every college in the country by the time he's ready to commit. He’s a smooth pocket passer who is comfortable throwing on the run as well and with a strong sophomore season, will definitely be in the discussion for top overall player in the ’23 class. He does have a live arm, can throw rolling left and right and from several different arm angles. At an event like this, you often see the quarterbacks trying to throw every pass 100MPH to impress their peers with arm strength but Nelson is about completing passes accurately and on time. There isn’t a throw he can’t make and he’s so mature already as a quarterback. Every time we see him, he looks a little better and is throwing with so much confidence. QB Malachi Nelson, Los Alamitos (Calif.) (2023): In what was a strong group of quarterbacks, Nelson still stood out as the most consistent. *As we always state, these rankings are based solely on how the players looked on Sunday and has nothing to do with recruiting rankings. Since the quarterback group was strong, we'll have a top performers list from the Elite 11 in a separate story later today but still included a quarterback as our Alpha in this piece. Here's our look at our Alpha Dog (overall top performer) and top five performers on offense and defense. The quarterbacks tested and then did a 2.5 hour workout that included an accuracy challenge. The exception was the quarterbacks who took part in an Elite 11 workout at the end of the camp that also included a handful of receivers who stayed to catch passes. ![]() Players tested as usual in the 40, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump and power ball throw and then did an hour or so of position drills. ĭue to Covid protocols, there were no one on ones at the event so the offensive and defensive lineman, running backs and linebackers and receivers/defensive backs all worked out separately. The Stack Sports Regional Showcase (formerly known as The Opening Regional) made its final stop of the year Sunday at El Camino College (Calif.) with a solid group of 2022, 20 athletes participating in the event.
